How hungry am I?

It’s after 8 pm, and pangs of hunger cause a rumbling in my stomach. It dawns on me that I’ve only had one meal today.  I used to laugh at people who forgot to eat. And today, I’m one of them.  I’ve been on the go all day, but as soon as I sat down with a cup of hot tea, hunger hit. I chose a meal that my best friend would call boring—cottage cheese, pineapple, and some pumpkin seeds. It satisfies my sugar craving, gives me the protein I need, and relieves my discomfort.  I’m grateful for the times God “satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things.” (Psalms 107:9) I’m also aware some people are going to bed unable to stave off their pangs of hunger. I pray for the day when this is no longer an issue.

“They will never again be hungry or thirsty…” Revelation 7:16a

Never Hunger Or Thirst

Picture yourself, dressed in white, standing victorious before the Lord satisfied in body and soul. What a day that will be! Can you imagine it? It won’t be like the temporary feeling we get from a good meal, a great workout, or a passionate time of worship. It will be a permanent state of being.

But until that day comes, we will have hungry people all around us. Not just physically hungry, as I mentioned earlier, but spiritually hungry, constantly craving something they can’t eat. We must eat more than one spiritual meal each week. We need our thirst quenched by the Living Water while we feast on His word. He is ready to satisfy our hearts and souls. So the question we have to ask ourselves is, “how hungry am I?” and then look to Him for sustenance.

Let’s Reflect

When was the last time you felt spiritual hunger? How often do you feed yourself on His word? Have you ever helped someone else eat spiritual food? Spend some time in prayer. Ask God to show you who might need their hunger and thirst quenched by Him.

Let’s Pray

Almighty God, You are the Giver and Sustainer of life. We come to You for food that satisfies the hunger we feel deep inside. Restore us, refresh us, and fill us as only You can. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
