What season is this, Lord? I’ve been reading through Proverbs in different versions of the Bible. Last week in Proverbs chapter 10, I found this verse in the Passion Translation.
Know the importance of the season you’re in and a wise son you will be. But what a waste when an incompetent son sleeps through his day of opportunity. Provers 10: 5 (TPT)
Do you know what season this is for you? For me, this verse isn’t speaking of winter, spring, summer, or fall. Although, for some, it might. My thoughts centered around the One Word God so graciously gives me each year. Last year’s word was ‘overseed.’ This year, it’s a phrase, “power build.” So, for me, this is a building season. Last year God intervened and overseeded all the barren and brown patches of my soul. And this year, it’s time to build in His power.
Power-building
My power-building season began with an emphasis on strategic prayer. I find myself writing prayers based on God’s words of wisdom. Maybe that’s why I’ve clung so tightly to Proverbs. I rely on the insight and understanding tucked neatly in each chapter. As I seek to understand the importance of this building season, there are verses impressed upon my heart. And I eagerly climb into my recliner with a hot cup of tea and my prayer journal, awaiting the next lesson.
Illuminate the Darkness
Each morning I ask God to illuminate the darkness within me and around me. He always answers through scripture. Last week I asked this question, and immediately from Proverbs 11:1, I received this word,
To set high standards for someone else, and then not live up to them yourself, is something God truly hates. (TPT)
Ouch. How often have I done this, Lord? I want to build a powerful foundation, and I don’t want to practice things You hate. Tears flow freely during this prayer session. It was a morning of repentance-laced insights—a character molding discourse with my Savior. Have you ever had this happen? I would love to know what season this is for you.
