Turning on a light is a small, deliberate act that changes everything else in the room. We turn lights on and off routinely without much thought. But it’s the power of light that lets us see clearly and move with clarity. We need the light of life as a keystone to find consistency. New habits require one small act of awareness that illuminates the path for everything else.
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
John 8:12 ESV
If we allow Him, the Light of the World, to be the illumination we need to set everything in motion, His light makes the day’s work visible and doable. We start with grounding ourselves in who God is and what He’s called us to do.
The Light Reveals Inconsistency
Inconsistency hides in the dark. Perhaps you don’t realize that you skip workouts every Thursday, or that your resolve with a certain food or drink collapses in the evenings. You can’t fix a pattern you haven’t illuminated. Consistency itself is the practice of returning to the same place with the light on, day after day, until the pattern holds on its own.
Our Model for Consistency is Christ
Jesus lived a life of unwavering purpose. He knew why He had come, and He remained faithful to the Father’s will. His life reminds us that consistency is not perfection. It is choosing, again and again, to walk in the direction God has called us to walk.
And where do we find that direction?
In His Word.
The words of Christ are the Light that guides us toward our purpose. Scripture illuminates the path, reminds us who we are, whose we are, and what we are called to do. His light doesn’t necessarily show us everything that lies ahead, but it gives us enough awareness to consistently take the next step.

*For those of you who prayer walk, imagine Christ illuminating each step as you walk. Take note of what the Holy Spirit reveals in that light.
