God’s Word is ________. How did your mind fill in the blank? God’s Word is true? Reliable? A fairy tale? Our answer impacts our faith. In the early stages of our missionary work in Russia, I saw the miraculous hand of God in each challenge. But, as days gave way to weeks and months, my faith waxed and waned with adapting to language, culture, and the economic uncertainty of sustaining our life abroad. I believed that God would take care of us, but I felt defeated when I couldn’t see how.
“You see, every child of God overcomes the world, for our faith is the victorious power that triumphs over the world. So who are the world conquerors, defeating its power? Those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.” 1 John 5:4-5 TPT
Belief helps us overcome.
Perhaps, the issue is not in the validity of God’s Word but its application to ourselves? If so, then we must decide whether to receive it or not. The old-school mindset says, “If God said it, that settles it.” But does that mindset work in this post-pandemic fake-news culture? Perhaps we hear the attenuated voice of the enemy echoing through the ages questioning Eve, “Did God really say…?” It’s time to open our eyes to this tactic and accept God’s Word as credible and applicable to our lives and unique situations.
Faith is the victorious power.
It’s not a personal power but power embedded in the essence of faith. Every child of God has His power infused within us to overcome. We are unstoppable overcomers and conquerors because of the work of Christ. There is no limit to what He can achieve through us. We can grow through whatever He has for us to go through. And we’ll bring glory to His name and comfort to His children as we arise from the ashes of doubt and fear.
Let’s Reflect
God’s Word is________? Take time to fill in the blank and take note of what memories or feelings are attached to that statement.
Let’s Pray
O Lord, You are great, and Your Word endures forever! Thank You for the power embedded in our faith. Whether we have mustard seed size or X-Large, You empower genuine faith. And we are grateful. In Your name, we pray. Amen.
