Pause, Pray, Prove

How quickly do you repost something you see on social media? For many of us, the impulse is almost automatic. This is the age of scroll, react, share. Scroll, react, share. Over and over. Just today, I saw a post that felt relevant, sounded credible, and aligned with things I had heard before. I decided to pause, pray, and prove whether or not it was true. I took a screenshot and asked ChatGPT whether the claims could be substantiated by research. The results were exactly what I feared: a few statements had strong supporting evidence, some had moderate support, and the majority had little to no reliable backing at all.

Motivational memes are not always aligned with Biblical principles. Health and wellness graphics are not always based on scientific research. And some sentences with a Bible verse attached are not found in scripture.

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth. Psalms 46:10 NIV

Pause, Pray, Prove

Being still is how we pause. I don’t believe that most people are trying to deceive, but the pace of our digital world can pressure us to react without stilling our hearts to question the information. With the rise of AI tools, the desire to go viral, and the constant striving to be part of the conversation, the lines between what is true and what is half-true become blurred. But God has given us the ability to think critically, the wisdom to seek clarity, and the spiritual discipline to wait on Him before speaking or acting.

This experience became a theme God developed in my heart, which led to my newest YouVersion devotional. As I wrote, I realized how important it is for believers to slow down and filter what we see. If you’re interested, I created a 3-day devotional plan called Pause, Pray, Prove. You can click here to begin; I’d love for you to join me.

Remember to Pause

As we enter the holiday season, we’ll find ourselves in more conversations with family, friends, coworkers, or old acquaintances. These moments can be joyful, but they can also be stressful or awkward. I choose not to debate politics online, I’m not on TikTok, and I do not follow every piece of trending gossip. I choose to follow Jesus. This year, more than ever, I’ve been pursuing Him intentionally, desiring to walk in Truth, not trends. My hope is that you’ll walk this journey with me. The narrow road isn’t about popularity or politics; it’s about staying aligned with Christ. It’s choosing His words, His ways, and His purpose above all else. May our beliefs, thoughts, and opinions reflect Christ, for He alone is worthy of our following.
