My coach issued a 10k-a-day step challenge to all of his athletes. I love to walk, especially outdoors. So my hand went up quickly to join in. Besides, I know from personal experience that walking and strength training are a great complement to one another. Our strength training as powerlifters helps us build muscle, keeps us toned, and boosts our metabolism. Since our coach added walking as part of our training block, it has benefited our overall fitness and gives us another way to burn calories. Some days, I walk on the treadmill. On other days, I prefer to walk outside. That’s where I feel most at peace. Today, as I walked, I noticed the signs and shadows.
Signs and Shadows
I’m one of those people who take photos so I can look back and treasure moments. Often times a picture will serve as a prompt for a verse God wants me to recall or take notice of. Since I’ve been reading Luke, these words from Zachariah’s song about his son John the Baptist seem fitting,
To give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, To guide our feet into the way of peace. Luke 1:79 NKJV
John’s purpose was to be a sign pointing to Christ to prepare the way for Him. John brought light to those in need of repentance. Light guides us like a sign that points the way to our destination.
We need signs to navigate through the shadow of death and guide us into the way of peace. When we dig deeper into words such as ‘light’ or ‘peace’, we find out more about Jesus.
Jesus Himself is the Light we are encouraged to walk in, and in Isaiah 9:6, He is called the Prince of Peace. Light and Peace, are two small words with only five letters each, but powerful enough to change the direction of our lives. Because they aren’t simply words, they are names we call Him, attributes of His we can rely on, and foundational principles on which we can build our faith.
May we be like John the Baptist and serve as signs to those around us to help them navigate through the shadows and find the Light and Peace we ourselves have found!
