She was compassionate yet strong, a protector, like Christ. I drove around the corner after chatting with my BFF, and there they were. Three women, one umbrella. I don’t know them, so I’m not sure of their relationship to one another. Were they long-time friends, relatives, or a combination of both? The one who stood out to me was holding the umbrella. Her strength made room to accommodate the other two women. She held the umbrella high enough to protect all of them from the sun, bearing down with its midday strength.
I lift my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; your Protector will not slumber. Indeed, the Protector of Israel does not slumber or sleep. The Lord protects you; the Lord is a shelter right by your side. The sun will not strike you by day or the moon by night. The Lord will protect you from all harm; He will protect your life. The Lord will protect your coming and going both now and forever. Psalms 121:1-8 CSB
The Lord Will Be Our Protection
God covers us like the perfect umbrella when the heat is turned up on our day-to-day lives. His sustaining grace shields us from being consumed by the scorching trials of adversity. He is like a protective canopy, safeguarding us from the piercing gaze of toxic judgement. His acceptance, unconditional love, and forgiveness are a barricade fending against the strategic darts from the enemy.
An Ever-Present Umbrella
Much like the three women, one umbrella, God’s strong arm provides for more than one person. Beneath His wings we all may find solace, comfort, strength, companionship, compassion, and mercy. We’ll never walk alone. We will walk securely as His watchful eye observes every step. He is our Refuge, our strength, and our helper. An ever-present umbrella to shelter us from the elements. Let’s lift our eyes toward the Maker of heaven and earth. In His mighty arms we are forever safe and sound.
