Hand Over the Shoes

“Hand over the shoes, and no one gets hurt.” This statement, from one of the most passionate Christian women I know, made me laugh hard.  And it’s my favorite from my social media posts. I purchased green shoes to match the emerald ring my husband gave me for my birthday. The shoes, balloons, and a few other items had to be ordered ahead of time. Life outside of the US means we can’t always be spontaneous. We often plan ahead for special occasions.

But in my careful planning, I hadn’t factored in whether or not I could handle wearing heels. After all, as a fitness trainer, I spend six days a week in fitness wear and high-top Converse instead of high-heeled shoes. As I fastened the first strap, I prayed for God to make my feet steady and sure.

“The Lord God is my strength [my source of courage, my invincible army]; He has made my feet [steady and sure] like hinds’ feet, and makes me walk [forward with spiritual confidence] on my high places [of challenge and responsibility]. For the choir director, on my stringed instruments.” Habakkuk‬ ‭3‬:‭19‬ ‭AMP‬‬

It’s important that we walk sure-footed, especially in the high spaces of life. We need God to be our strength in situations that challenge us. Our feet need the certainty of His steadiness to walk with spiritual confidence.

As we face the challenges our responsibilities bring, may we seek His strength as our source of comfort. May we trust Him to make our feet steady and sure as we navigate the daily waters of life. And may our journey through each day give honor to Him.
