I almost fell during my workout today. I felt light-headed and lost my balance during a set of step-ups onto a bench. Instead of falling, I was able to shift my weight and right myself. After standing still for a moment, I composed my thoughts and finished the exercise. How agile are you? Aging is often associated with slow movement, increased stiffness, and feeling frail. One of my goals for this decade is to expand my training to enhance agility alongside gaining strength.
He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights. Psalms 18:33 NLT
How Agile Are You?
Surefooted, (agile) as a deer. The characteristics of a spiritually agile Christian shares in the symbolism of a deer. They represent grace, beauty, and swiftness. Those qualities are hooves needed to navigate the journey to the mountain heights. Much like a deer who is constantly alert to danger, they are sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit and are able to move swiftly when He prompts. The spiritually agile beautifully adapt to God’s will and way. They have the grace needed to be bold, endure, and persevere. They embrace godly habits that cultivate the resilience to right themselves and step into alignment with Christ’s priorities.
Spiritual agility is the flexibility and adaptability to handle changing circumstances. The female deer, a hind, has her feet mentioned in three different verses. Along with Psalm 18:33, we have 2 Samuel 22:34 and Habakkuk 3:19. All these verses have similar wording revealing that it is God who makes feet like those of deer so that we can walk in high places.
Unique in Design
It is the deer’s hooves and strong legs that are needed for climbing. If God has chosen you, and called you to be like Him, then He has designed you for the journey you are on. And oh how beautiful are the feet of those who worship Him. As we age physically may we also mature spiritually. So ask yourself, how agile are you?
*For those of you who prayer walk, contemplate Psalm 18:33, ask God for the agility to climb and stand on the mountain tops.
