An Invitation to Live in Awe

I believe there is a sacred invitation woven into everyday life, an invitation to live in awe. Not just on mountaintops or in life’s biggest moments, but right where we are, in the ordinary. I find it there often. As an older athlete and a woman in my sixth decade, I marvel at what the body can do, what the mind can learn, what the eyes can behold, and what the soul can perceive.

It’s easy to rush past these wonders, distracted or desensitized to their presence. We can recognize God’s goodness everywhere; it waits for us to see it. And we can cultivate awe like any other skill. We can train the eyes of our hearts to see it.

Luke 8:25, says

Awestruck, they marveled, asking one another, “Who can this be, that He commands even the wind and the water, and they obey him?” Luke 8:25 CJB

Awe opens our eyes to something greater than ourselves. It draws us into a story filled with mystery, beauty, and divine presence.

An Invitation to Live in Awe

I am inspired by scripture to cultivate a sense of awe, and I’d love for you to join me.

  • Look for awe in the sunlight spilling across a room.
  • Look for awe in music that gives you chills.
  • Look for awe in the simple, beautiful ways people show up for one another.
  • Look for awe in the everyday; your morning coffee, a genuine smile, and the stillness between tasks.

Once you begin to notice it, awe changes you. It softens the heart. It quiets worry, deepens gratitude,  and draws us closer to the One who conquered death.  Contemplate Christ with awe this Holy Week, the One in whom every mystery, every beauty, every wonder finds its origin.

This new month, choose to slow down. Pay attention. Let yourself marvel. Live in awe — on purpose.
