For the past 238 days, I’ve been walking, taking pictures, and praying for my family. My children and grandchildren are heavy on my heart. The world seems chaotic; storms, wars, and tension abound. So today, like a child, I stopped when I saw a pile of leaves. I thought about days long ago and leaves being raked into a big pile, perfect for jumping in.
Sadly, or maybe it was for the best, there weren’t enough leaves on the trail to make a pile large enough for me to jump in. However, I was able to do the next best thing: walk on top of them and enjoy the crunch.
This simple action brought joy, hope, and healing to my heart. I laughed out loud, not caring what others on the trail might think. I took a video to capture the crunching sound underneath my feet. Have you ever committed a childlike act in public?
Learn This Well
“Learn this well: unless you receive the revelation of the kingdom the same way a little child receives it, you will never be able to enter in.” Luke 18:17 TPT
The kingdom of God must be received like a child—in innocence and wonder, loaded with joy. Life will keep on life-ing. Moments of childlike amusement are found along our journey if our eyes and hearts remain receptive. God chose fallen leaves to remind me that He takes care of all of the children in His kingdom—even the grown-up ones like you and me.
He knew my heavy heart required an intervention. Fasting and praying and walking and waiting on answers can be hard on the soul. A God-kissed moment—leaves crunching beneath my feet, breathing in the crisp air, and sensing His presence is now a priceless memory.
I don’t think we have to seek out moments to receive from Him like a child. We simply have to be open when those occasions present themselves. What childlike actions have you committed lately? And how have they impacted you as a child of the King?
*For those of you who prayer walk, ponder the phrase “like a child” as you walk. And may God kiss you with an experience you won’t soon forget!
