As we settle into the first week of Advent, I’ve noticed seven ways to hope in Him. I’ve used these words in reflecting, praying, and meditating. Each day, as I walk, I choose one and ponder its depth and significance.
Types of Hope
- Confident. Romans 15:13
- Enduring. 1 Thessalonians 1:3
- Eager. Romans 8:20-21
- Glorious. Ephesians 4:4
- Wonderful. 2 Thessalonians 2:16-17
- Better. Hebrews 7:19
- Same. Acts 26:7
Seven Ways
My prayer walks have centered around these seven simple phrases tucked into passages throughout the New Testament. I found them as I studied in preparation for this week. Oh, how I long for the Holy Spirit to cause each of us to overflow with confident hope. God Himself is worthy of our confidence. May He give us enduring hope like our elders have discovered as they’ve walked faithfully with Jesus. Like creation, may we experience an eager hope for His return—His second Advent. May we honor Him in our prayers, for He alone is our Glorious hope, our Wonderful hope, and a Better hope than we could dream up on our own. And may God, in His graciousness, grant us unity and the same hope.
Rooted in Christ
We anticipate Christmas as we number the days until celebrating His birth. Our preparation, when rooted in Christ, is transformative. He provides us with strength, perseverance, and eternal comfort. In the midst of buying gifts, hosting parties, and attending concerts, we must also make room for Him. Room for His presence, room to sink into His arms and feel the peace and joy of His love. Perhaps the new outfit we need this season is Him. May the new fragrance others notice on us be Him. May our hearts be lifted and our spirits be lightened by time spent making room for Him. Let every heart prepare Him room, and let it begin with expectancy rooted in Him.
*For those of you who prayer walk, choose a phrase that speaks to you and ponder it as you walk this week.
